Mac warning: You must Authenticate in order to disable the network to take this exam

NOTE - Always reboot your computer before an exam and open only applications you will need during the exam.

For a CLOSED mode exam, open ONLY Exam4.

If you are being prompted for a password, enter the password you use to sign into your administrative user account on your Mac.

If you are not getting the password prompt, try each of these in order.


Option 1: Direct launch

  • In the Applications folder:
  • Right-click (control+click) on Exam4 in the Applications folder
  • Select "open".

Option 2: Clean login

  • Click the apple icon on the left of the menu bar at the top of your screen.
  • Select "Restart..."
  • VERY IMPORTANT: When the computer asks "Are you sure you want to restart your computer now?", make sure "Reopen windows when logging back in" is NOT checked!!!

NOTE: It may take several reboots to remove the issue.


Option 3: Remove and reinstall helper tool.

Restart your computer as in Option 2, and follow these instructions exactly to remove the Helper Tool:

It is very important to follow best practices for smooth operation of Exam4:

> Shut off all programs running in the background.
> Turn off auto-updates.
> Reboot the machine shortly before each exam and open only the software necessary for the exam.

Take a practice exam before the next actual exam.
